Cocaine import case moves towards trial

A Tamavua-based general manager charged over the alleged importation of cocaine from Brazil has been granted a bail extension as his case moves a step closer to trial.
Shonal Sharma, 40, appeared before Magistrate Joseph Daurewa in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
State prosecutor Alisha Lal told the court that all disclosures had been served on the defence and requested a response to the agreed facts.

Sharma is charged after a parcel allegedly containing cocaine, addressed to his company, arrived in Fiji on October 25, 2025.
The court heard the package was declared as a "smoke machine" but was flagged during inspection after a drug detector dog indicated it was suspicious.
Prosecutors allege officers opened the parcel and found that the device labelled as a smoke machine contained a motherboard fitted with a black cover.
