Convicted former lawyer to enter plea on new drug charge

A former Suva lawyer, already serving a prison term for drug offences, will enter his plea next month on a new charge of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

Shazran Abdul Lateef appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza yesterday.

The court was told he would be represented by private counsel.

Lateef is accused of being in possession of 0.584 grams of methamphetamine on December 4 last year.

The court also heard he is serving a three-year, eight-month prison sentence.

He was convicted this week for unlawful possession of 9.5 grams of methamphetamine and 3.5 grams of marijuana in 2019.

The new case was adjourned to March 11 to allow time for legal representation.
