Defence Given Time To Review State Evidence

Congo national Kiala Lusaka’s third day of trial was adjourned yesterday, giving time for defence to review the states evidence.
Justice Vincent Perera was to preside over the trial matter of Lusaka who faces a charge of one count of murder.
However, he adjourned the matter after defence lawyer, Laurel Vaurasi, indicated to the court that she wanted to spend time with the accused Lusaka and seek further instructions.

She had initially indicated to the court that she had wished to meet Lusaka on Saturday at the remand center for further instructions and if she could cross-examine the first witness next Monday-but this was denied.
Justice Perera told Ms Vaurasi that she could spend time with the accused this morning and by Friday she would cross-examine the witness.
Lusaka is alleged to have murdered his 44-year-old wife Jennifer Anne Downes, an Australian national.
The alleged incident occurred on July 23, 2019, at their rented home at Service Street in Suva.
He was further remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.
