Former Registrar Of Titles And Clerk Appear In Court On Corruption-Related Offences

A former officer from the Registrar of Titles and a law clerk appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday on corruption-related offences.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Ravikashwar Chand with one count of Falsification of Documents. It is alleged that Chand falsified the transfer of Title lease number.
Charged alongside him was Hemant Kumar who faces one count each of giving information derived from false document, obtaining financial advantage and fraudulently falsification of accounts.
He is alleged to have given false information from a false document to an individual regarding the title and obtained $2750 and further falsified the receipts for his former law firm by altering the entries.
FICAC Senior State Counsel, Sam Savumiramira informed the Court that first phase disclosures were served and requested strict bail conditions.
Resident Magistrate Josefa Daurewa granted the duo bail and instructed them not to re-offend, change their place of residence, interfere with prosecution witnesses and that they had to report to the FICAC Suva Office on the last Friday of every month.
A Stop Departure Order was also imposed with their travel documents surrendered to the court.
The matter was adjourned to February 3, 2020.
