Four police officers accused of repeatedly assaulting a man during a drug raid at Vatuwaqa last year were further remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrate Court on Friday.

Appearing before Magistrate Charles Ratakele, were Jekope Nakula, Maciu Tuira, Tokoni Nemia and Unaisi Leka.

They are jointly charged with assault intended to cause grievous harm.

It is alleged that between March 15 and 16, 2024, during the drug raid the officers unlawfully wounded Stephen Serukalou O’Connor by repeatedly assaulting him.

Defence lawyer Joji Cakau said the State had served him full disclosures.

Prosecution then requested that the matter be transferred to the High Court. This was approved by Magistrate Ratakele.

He refused to entertain an oral bail application and instructed the defence to file a formal written application by next Thursday.

Prosecution has already indicated it will object to bail.

The accused person plea was also deferred.

The matter has been adjourned to May 14, when the defence will file bail applications.
