Grandfather remanded over alleged rape of four-year-old

A 63-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the alleged rape of his four-year-old granddaughter.

The accused appeared before High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar, where it was confirmed that he is the grandfather of the young complainant.
The alleged offence is said to have occurred in Raiwaqa, Suva, in December 2025.

Following police investigations, the man was charged with one count of rape.

Given the seriousness of the charge and the age of the alleged victim, the court ordered that the accused be remanded in custody.

The matter has been adjourned to February 27, when the accused is expected to take his plea.

The identities of the accused and the child cannot be published to protect the minor, in accordance with the law.
