Labasa murder accused remanded

A man charged with the alleged murder of Labasa businessman at Rara Avenue last Sunday has been remanded by the Magistrates Court in Labasa.

Ananaisa Ono, charged with one count of murder, appeared before Magistrate Amelia Korodrau today.

The court heard he allegedly stabbed Prem Chand, who died the following day.

Police Prosecutor Constable Vimleshkar Chand told the court the matter is an indictable offence and should be transferred to the High Court in Labasa.

Magistrate Korodrau agreed, describing it as a serious offence, and remanded the accused.

Ono opted to be represented by the Legal Aid Commission, with lawyer Viliame Savou present in court.

Magistrate Korodrau instructed Police to escort the accused to the Legal Aid Commission for assistance.

The case has been adjourned to May 21 at the High Court in Labasa.
