Man Charged With Murder Of Elderly Caretaker Remanded

On February 6, at Viwawa in Navua, Tiko allegedly assaulted the deceased with a metal pipe, dragged the deceased to a drain and stabbed him eight times with a kitchen knife before robbing him off his $100 cash and left him in the drain.

A 24-year-old labourer from Navua appeared at the Magistrates Court in Suva charged for allegedly killing an elderly caretaker.

Aliki Livai Tiko is charged with one count each of murder and of theft.

He appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili in Suva.

On February 6, at Viwawa in Navua, Tiko allegedly assaulted the deceased with a metal pipe, dragged the deceased to a drain and stabbed him eight times with a kitchen knife before robbing him off his $100 cash and left him in the drain.

The deceased’s body was discovered the next day.

Chief Magistrate Ratuvili transferred the case to the High Court.

Tiko has been remanded in custody and has been told to apply for bail in the High Court.

The matter has been adjourned to March 1
