A man charged with seven counts of obtaining a financial advantage has been remanded in custody after being denied bail by the Nadi Magistrates Court.

Pravitesh Prakash appeared before Magistrate Mareta Tikoisuva yesterday.

It is alleged that on July 12, 2023, in Nadi, Prakash obtained $350 through an internet banking platform from Titilia Raiyawa, knowing she was not eligible to receive the financial advantage.

The court heard that Prakash understood the charges read to him and elected to exercise his right to legal counsel.

Police prosecutor Corporal Saumaki Jovesa objected to bail, informing the court that the accused has similar charges pending since May last year.

The prosecutor also told the court that Prakash has 10 other matters that he has yet to be charged with.

The court further heard that on July 20 last year, Prakash was charged with another count of obtaining a financial advantage after allegedly receiving $1,899 from Miriama Hawea, knowing or believing she was not eligible to receive it.

Prakash was denied bail and remanded in custody.

The matter has been adjourned to February 4 for mention at the Nadi Magistrates Court.
