The Director of Public Prosecutions has filed a nolle prosequi (a formal notice to discontinue or dismiss legal proceedings) in the case of a 25-year-old murder accused.

Josaia Alfred Vueti Naibose appeared before Justice Vinsent Perera, represented by lawyer Nemani Tuifagalele.

It was alleged that Naibose allegedly caused the death of Nemani Tabuwere, a toddler who was the brother of accused’s partner.

The case had come to light after the child passed away at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital on February 15.

A post mortem examination was conducted where it was discovered the child had died of severe internal injuries.

Naibose was alleged to have been looking after the child on the day he fell ill. The child’s parents took him to the Valelevu Health Centre where he was transferred to the CWM Hospital. He was admitted for a short while until he passed away.

Prosecutor from the Office of the DPP had filed a nolle prosequi. Justice Perera then discharged Naibose from the case accordingly.
