Man Found Guilty Of Rape And Pornographic Activity, Sentenced To 15 years In Prison

A man found guilty of three counts of rape and one count of pornographic activity has been ordered by the High Court in Lautoka to serve 15 years, four months and two weeks in prison.
The court heard that the man raped his niece, who was 15 at the time of the offence, which took place in Sigatoka between January 1 and December 31, 2013.
While handing down the sentence, Judge Justice Rangajeeva Wimalasena said the aggravating factors were the abuse of trust, the age difference as the victim was 15 and the man was 44 years of age at the time of the offence in 2013, the victim’s vulnerability, financial dependence and the victim was emotionally and psychologically impacted by his actions.
