Man further remanded over alleged theft of elderly man’s ATM card

A 49-year-old man accused of stealing a Bank of South Pacific (BSP) card from an elderly man has been further remanded in custody.

Niraj Prasad is charged with one count of theft involving an 86-year-old complainant, Malakai Kauwale.

The matter was heard in the Magistrates Court, where Magistrate Charles Ratakele ordered that Prasad remain in custody.

The court heard that Prasad was required to file a formal bail application.

Prasad claimed he had already completed his bail application on Friday but said he does not remember the name of his lawyer.

The court directed him to properly file his bail application before the next hearing.

Prasad is expected to appear again in court on January 14, 2026, for his bail hearing.
