Man Gets 11 Years For Raping Drinking Buddy

A 27-year-old has been jailed for 11 years, nine months and 10 days for raping his drinking partner.
Motuisela Tawake was convicted for assault with intent to commit rape, indecent assault and rape.
He will serve a non-parole period of nine years before he is eligible for parole.

On July 9, 2017, the victim was drinking alcohol with Tawake in different places in Nadi.
The drinking ended the next day near a village and by this time the others had left.
Tawake told the victim he will take him to the place where the others were drinking.
When they were approaching a cassava patch, Tawake told the victim that he wanted to have anal intercourse with the victim. When the victim refused, Tawake threatened and punched the victim three times on his face.
When the victim fell Tawake raped the victim.
Tawake did this repeatedly, the victim felt pain and wanted to shout but Tawake was biting his lips and threatened to kill him if he shouted.
At this time, Tawake also bit the victim’s neck and chest.
