Man Jailed For Killing Three Months Pregnant Partner

A 27-year-old farmer was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his partner while she was three months pregnant with his child in 2019.

Mosese Koroi Sigabalavu appeared before Justice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva yesterday for his sentence .

He will serve a non-parole period of 18 years.

Sigabalavu and the deceased, Seini Tagilala, 23, spent the night of June 6, 2019 at a hotel. The next morning, they had an argument concerning Sigabalavu’s attachment to an ex-girlfriend.

Sigabalavu, who was heavily intoxicated, punched the deceased on her head and face several times, the deceased suffered serious injuries. She was taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Justice Temo told Sigabalavu: “The facts of your case demonstrated once again the all too familiar problem of young males’ inability to control their temper in relating to their female partners.

“This kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated by right thinking members of the society and you must accept that you have to be punished,” he said.
