The court also issued a permanent domestic violence restraining order (DVRO) prohibiting Mr Chand from contacting his parents.
The charge stemmed from a violent incident in which Mr Chand threatened to stab his mother.
Court records show the victim suffered head injuries and a deep cut to her hand while attempting to fend off an attack.
In sentencing, Justice Ratuvili considered Chand’s guilty plea and personal circumstances, but emphasised the seriousness of domestic violence-related offending.
The court ordered that the eight-month prison sentence be suspended for three years.
