Meth suspect accused of attempting to bribe officer with $150

The man has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, one count of attempted bribery and one count of serious assault.

A 44-year-old man accused of offering a police officer $150 to release him after methamphetamine was allegedly found in his possession will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today.

The man has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, one count of attempted bribery and one count of serious assault.

Police said the suspect was stopped and searched by officers on patrol in Delainavesi on August 19.

During the search, officers allegedly discovered a zip-lock plastic bag containing white crystals, which later tested positive for methamphetamine.

The accused then allegedly offered $150 to the arresting officer to release him before fleeing the scene.

He was subsequently arrested by two officers.

The accused is expected to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today, August 21.
