Naqali murder accused not mentally fit to enter plea

The High Court in Suva has been told that a man charged in connection with the death of a teenage girl in Naqali Village, Naitasiri, is not mentally fit to enter a plea at this stage.
Samuela Dasalusalu, 43, appeared before High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar today, charged with the alleged murder of 16-year-old Salote Sikiti on December 10, 2025.
The court was informed that Dasalusalu was currently unfit to take his plea, and as a result, plea taking did not proceed.

The judge directed counsel to provide information confirming whether Dasalusalu is currently being held at St Giles Hospital, saying this was necessary for the court to better understand his condition and determine the appropriate next steps.
Dasalusalu has been further remanded in custody.
The matter has been adjourned to February 20, 2026, for mention and further directions.
