Niumataiwalu In Custody For Alleged Theft

The case of Sakiusa Niumataiwalu has been transferred to the High Court in Labasa.
Niumataiwalu, 27, of Naseakula Village in Labasa, is charged with five counts of aggravated burglary, five counts of theft and one count of breaching curfew order.
He allegedly broke into six shops at the Jaduram Plaza in main street Labasa Town on March 23, 2021 and stole cash worth more than $34,000 including assorted goods.

The alleged incident happened during curfew hours.
Niumataiwalu appeared before Magistrate Jagodage Bimsara at the Magistrates Court in Labasa yesterday.
Police prosecutor, Corporal Vignesh Prasad, told the court that since the case was of public interest, the accused to be further remanded in custody.
The matter has been adjourned to May 5.
