Plea set in Showcase death case

A plea date has been set for September 7 for a 34-year-old man charged with manslaughter over an alleged breach of duty linked to the death of a young woman at the 2023 Vodafone Showcase in Suva.
Ashneel Nath appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe in the High Court in Suva yesterday, where State prosecutor Sadaf Shameem informed the court that the prosecution required more time to file information previously ordered by the court.
The court granted the State additional time to file the required documents, while defence lawyer Karl Jamnadas sought six weeks for Nath to enter a plea.

The State alleges Nath failed to properly inspect the Ferris wheel in his capacity as an Occupational Health and Safety officer before allowing it to operate and that the inspection carried out was inadequate.
The matter has been adjourned to September 7 for plea.
