Roadblock trio face attempted murder charge

It is alleged the trio attempted to murder a police officer who was manning a roadblock during the incident on April 26 this year.

Three men who allegedly resisted arrest at a Laqere roadblock will now face a charge of attempted murder.

Dominiko Tabao, Saimoni Rokotunidau and Jone Rakatia appeared at the High Court in Suva before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere yesterday.

The court heard that Tabao and Rakatia are each charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of serious assault, and one count of going equipped with house break-in tools.

Rokotunidau faces additional charges of attempted murder, serious assault, going equipped, unlawful possession of illicit drugs, and refusing to provide fingerprints and photographs.

It is alleged the trio attempted to murder a police officer who was manning a roadblock during the incident on April 26 this year.

Matters consolidated

Prosecution has successfully applied for the three matters to be consolidated into a single proceeding.

It has been granted 21 days to file consolidated information.

Rakatia’s bail application is pending, with the State directed to file its response by June 19.

It will be heard on June 26 while bail for Tabao and Rokotunidau has been extended, while Rakatia is remanded in custody.

The matter has been adjourned to July 3, 2026.
