A 24-year-old university student, who allegedly impersonated himself as a Government lawyer and obtained $7500 from people, had his plea deferred by the Magistrates Court in Suva.

Josefa Saronitokatoka Volitiviti Kolinio Radrudru Ravoka, appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama, yesterday.

He is charged with one count of personating a public officer, one count of giving false information to a public officer, two counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception, and four counts of false or misleading documents.

Previous counsel Tevita Cagilaba from Toganivalu Legal told the court that the firm was withdrawing as counsel on record for the accused. He further added that the accused had engaged the Legal Aid Commission for representation and that the disclosures were handed to the commission.

The lawyer from the commission advised the court that they had received the application and sought time to advise the accused of plea.

Ravoka has been remanded in custody by the Magistrates Court and he will enter his pleas on November 19.
