Tacirua Man On Multiple Criminal Charges Given Fortnight To Decide On The Charges

The defence lawyer representing a 37-year-old man who is charged with a number of criminal offences was given two weeks to consider their position on the charges.
Sevanaia Baleinadi is charged with three counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, one count each of assault causing actual bodily harm, damaging property, robbery and criminal intimidation.
The alleged incidents happened on January 17, 2019, at Tacirua.

The complainant in the case was 58-years-old at the time of the alleged incidents.
Baleinadi appeared before Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe yesterday.
Defence lawyer Krisheel Chang from the Legal Aid Commission told the court that the defence had objected to the terms of the charges.
Justice Rajasinghe ordered the lawyer to consider the charges and file objections as required.
The court further remanded the accused in custody.
The case was adjourned to February 25 for mention.
