Trial Date Set For Man Who Allegedly Tried To Drown Wife

A man who is alleged to have endangered his wife’s life by forcing her head underwater will have his trial commence at the High Court in Suva from July 1.
The case of Vijay Kumar was called before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday, however, Kumar was not produced in court as he was remanded in custody at the Suva Remand Centre.
Defence lawyer from the Legal Aid Commission, Namrata Mishra told the court that her client was absent because he was in remand.

State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Kimberly Semisi told the court that the State would call two witnesses in the matter, one would be the complainant and the other would be the medical officer.
Justice Goundar has fixed the trial to be heard from July 1 to July 3.
A production order has been issued for the accused to be brought to court for his court hearings.
The matter has been adjourned for a pre-trial conference on June 15.
