The High Court in Suva has set trial dates for a 25-year-old man who allegedly damaged the Delainavesi Police Post in Lami last year.

Samuela Bokadi appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday charged with one count of damaging property, six counts of act with intent to cause grievous harm and five counts of resisting arrest.

A one-week trial has been fixed to commence from October 23.

State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Eoghan Samisoni told the court that the State would call the accused’s de facto partner and six Police officers to give evidence.

He also told the court that there were partial admissions in the caution interview and the accused was arrested at the scene of crime.

Defence lawyer from the Legal Aid Commission Litiana Ratidara told the court that the charge of act with intent to cause grievous harm should have been of a lesser charge of criminal intimidation.

However, Mr Samisoni told the court that the State would not accept a progressive approach by the accused on the lesser charge.

The matter has been adjourned for a pre-trial conference to October 18.

The accused was further remanded in custody pending trial.
