Two charged over $1,700 financial deception cases

Two people will appear in the Lautoka Magistrates Court today charged in separate cases of obtaining financial advantage by deception.

Police said the first case involves a 25-year-old man from Korovuto, Nadi, who allegedly duped a victim of $1,000 through a fake online investment scheme in May last year.

The victim, who never received a return on the investment, reported the matter at the Rakiraki Police Station.

The accused has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception.

In the second case, a 24-year-old woman from Natokowaqa, Lautoka, is alleged to have spent money that was mistakenly transferred into her bank account.

Police said she used $700 to pay bills and only returned $300 to the rightful account after being contacted by the victim.

The case was reported at the Totogo Police Station. She has also been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception.
