The case against Taione Senikaucava, who is accused of murdering his de facto partner, has been transferred to the Suva High Court.

Senikaucava appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somarathe at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday, where he faces one count of murder.

The court heard that the matter was initially filed in the Magistrates Court due to the legal vacation period, during which High Court sittings were limited.

Police allege that Senikaucava murdered his de facto partner during a heated argument at their home in Veisari in December last year.

It is further alleged that following the incident, he drove her body to the Totogo Police Station.

State Counsel Pooja Mishra told the court that an application had been filed to transfer the case to the High Court, as murder is an indictable offence that can only be tried there. The application was granted.

No plea was taken during the hearing.

The matter has been adjourned to January 23, when it is expected to be mentioned before the High Court.

Senikaucava remains in custody as the case proceeds.
