Woman Pleads Not Guilty To Alleged Bribery, Preventing Course Of Justice

A woman has pleaded not guilty in the Magistrates Court in Suva to multiple counts of bribery and preventing the course of justice.

The accused, Nur Jahan, appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama yesterday.

Laite Bokini appeared for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

Jahan was charged by FICAC in July.

It is alleged Jahan had offered $2000 to $10,000 to an assistant court officer in the Judicial Department, in an attempt to influence the officer to prevent an Appeal Case from being heard in the Fiji Court of Appeal.

She is further alleged to have offered $600 as an advance payment to the officer before she was apprehended.

The matter has been adjourned to November 21, 2019 for mention.
