A 38-year-old Fijian woman was allegedly murdered in a central Auckland apartment over the weekend.

Deceased is Luisa Qelesenikau Mate. She was found motionless at a Day Street address in Auckland, New Zealand, about 7.35pm last Saturday (1 November).

New Zealand Police have charged a 38-year-old man, who is known to the deceased, for murder. The alleged killer appeared at the Auckland District Court on Monday. He will reappear at the High Court in Auckland on November 18.

New Zealand media reported that Ms Mate was a victim of stabbing injury. The deceased is a mother of two boys, and eldest of four siblings.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help finance the repatriation of Ms Mate’s body.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the untimely passing of our beloved sister, Luisa. Her life was tragically taken from us far too soon, as she was the victim of a senseless act of violence,” her brother, Semi Mate, wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“Through her hard work and determination, she was able to take her family overseas, always striving to give them the best opportunities possible. She was a light to everyone who knew her, caring, strong, and full of love," Mr Mate wrote.

“The family’s greatest wish now is to bring Luisa back to Fiji to rest beside their mother.

“Unfortunately, the costs of repatriation, funeral arrangements, and related expenses are far beyond what our family can manage on our own. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us bring Luisa home and give her the farewell she deserves.”

So far, the fund has raised over $22,000, exceeding its target of $18,000.
