The association stressed that the prolonged vacancy periods place additional pressure on existing staff and disrupt learning for students, particularly in rural and maritime schools where teacher numbers are already limited.

All schools across Fiji will resume normal operations tomorrow after authorities confirmed that weather conditions have improved and school facilities are safe for students and teachers to return.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro announced that classes will resume on Thursday, June 18, following consultations with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), the Fiji Meteorological Service and other relevant agencies.

The decision comes after assessments confirmed that schools are accessible and suitable for the resumption of teaching and learning activities.

"Schools have confirmed that facilities are safe, accessible, and suitable for the resumption of normal teaching and learning activities."

Students and teachers are expected to return to classes as scheduled.

However, the ministry has urged parents and guardians to exercise caution in areas where local conditions remain unsafe.

"Parents and guardians are encouraged to exercise their discretion where local conditions remain unsafe, particularly in areas affected by flooding, damaged roads, unsafe river crossings, or transportation challenges."

The ministry said the safety and wellbeing of students remained the highest priority.

School heads have also been advised to continue monitoring local conditions and maintain close communication with their School Management Committees and District Education Offices should any issues arise.

The Ministry of Education said it would continue working closely with the NDRMO, the Fiji Meteorological Service and other authorities and would provide further updates if conditions change.

Mr Radrodro thanked school leaders, teachers, parents, communities and partner agencies for their cooperation during the recent weather disruption.
