An aspiring doctor from Ciriwai, Sigatoka, has topped her cohort after recording one of the highest Year 8 results in the country.

Rahmatullah Khan Memorial School Head Girl, Uzhmaa Nisha, scored 479 out of 500 in the Fiji Year 8 Examination, earning her the Dux Award for Highest Academic Achievement.

She secured top marks in English, Mathematics, Social Science, Basic Science and Urdu at the Maro, Nadroga-based school.

The 13-year-old has been a consistent high achiever from pre-school through to Year 8, often taking home awards and certificates for outstanding performance.

This year, she entered the examination hall with one goal — to protect her long-standing record of excellence.

“My parents, Mr Zibran and Mrs Mashuda, always remind me to work hard, just as they do,” she said.

“Their constant support and encouragement kept me focused, especially during my studies.”

Her preparation involved late-night revision, early mornings, daily practice, and what she describes as “lots of prayers” — a routine that strengthened both her confidence and discipline.

With dreams of becoming a doctor, Uzhmaa hopes to serve the people of Fiji and inspire other young students.

She believes determination and faith are key to achieving any goal.

Her parents describe her as hardworking and self-motivated, saying her latest achievement 'was only the beginning of an even brighter future'.
