Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has expressed support for the government’s decision to move oversight of the Fiji National University (FNU) from the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics.

Mr Radrodro said the Prime Minister’s decision reflects a strategic effort to align FNU more closely with national planning priorities and a whole-of-government approach to development.

“As Minister for Education and as Party Leader of SODELPA, I wish to state clearly that my role is to support the leader of Government, the Prime Minister, and Chair of Cabinet, and since being communicated the reassignment, I had carried out the directives to inform the FNU Council of the change,” Mr Radrodro said.

“Given FNU’s dual role in higher education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training, it is understandable that the government may wish to position the university within a broader strategic framework,” he said.

He assured students, staff, and stakeholders that the transition would not affect the government’s commitment to education.

“Our foremost concern remains strengthening FNU so it can contribute effectively to workforce development, economic resilience, and the long-term aspirations of our nation,” Mr Radrodro said.

He added that SODELPA, as part of the coalition government, continues to operate under principles of collective responsibility, mutual respect, and service to the people.

Mr Radrodro urged FNU staff, council members, and students to remain focused on their work during the transition.
