Literacy rises but numeracy slightly drops in 2025 LANA results

Literacy levels have continued to improve for both Year 5 and Year 7 students, according to the provisional 2025 Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LANA) results to be released tomorrow by the Ministry of Education.
However, numeracy performance has shown a slight decline at the upper level.
Year 5 literacy rose five percentage points, increasing from 90 per cent in 2024 to 95 per cent this year. Year 7 literacy also climbed, moving from 93 per cent to 95 per cent.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro said the results reflected the hard work of students and the commitment of teachers, parents and school leaders.
“I congratulate all Year 5 and Year 7 students for their commitment to LANA 2025,” he said.
“While literacy results are strong, we will continue to support schools to strengthen numeracy outcomes.”

School-level reports will be available tomorrow through the FEMIS platform, while parents can collect individual student reports from their respective schools.
