Ministry flags concern as thousands of students miss LANA exams
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro said participation gaps remain a significant issue, as LANA results guide national learning strategies and school-level interventions.

The Ministry of Education has raised concern over the number of Year 5 and Year 7 students who did not sit the 2025 Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LANA), despite being registered.
Of the 18,397 registered Year 5 students, 457 did not sit the literacy exam and 418 missed the numeracy paper.
For Year 7, 815 students failed to sit the literacy assessment and 568 did not sit the numeracy exam.
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro said participation gaps remain a significant issue, as LANA results guide national learning strategies and school-level interventions.

“We continue to show concerns on the number of students who do not participate in the LANA competency assessment,” he said. “We encourage schools and parents to ensure all registered students are fully accounted for.”
The Ministry has reminded schools they may contact the Examinations and Assessment Office or their District Education Office to clarify missing results or registration discrepancies during the 30-day provisional period.
The Ministry aims to address participation barriers and ensure all learners are included in the national assessment process.
