It takes a village to raise a child, says Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro.
He said responding to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health showing rising teenage pregnancy, illicit drug use in schools, and HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) cases in Fiji.
He added that the ministry could not tackle these issues alone and needed a collective effort.

“We are concerned about this, and it is not only the ministry but the Coalition Government that is working to address this major challenge,” Mr Radrodro said.
Mr Radrodro stressed the importance of a supportive community, including families, parents, teachers, school management, communities and stakeholders, in ensuring a child’s growth and safety.
“No child comes to school being told by their parents to use drugs or get pregnant. Parents and guardians want their children to attend school, focus on their studies, and achieve their goals,” he said.
“I continue to urge students to be wise and not be easily influenced or tempted by their friends. Disobedience and unwise decisions can lead to situations they never expected.
“We need to work collectively, so that together we can advocate for and improve the quality of education in Fiji.”
