Seventeen‑year‑old Salote Rabuka says being the first in her family to hold the deputy head girl position is both humbling and a challenge she embraces with faith and determination.

Originally from Drekeniwai, Navatu in Cakaudrove, with maternal links to Vunimono, Bau, Tailevu, she is a Pure Science student in House Lagakali.

Salote said stepping into a leadership role makes her proud and happy. “It carries a lot of weight, a lot of responsibility, and to be honest, I am a bit nervous.”

Her new role also includes leading the day scholars, a group she acknowledges often faces criticism for bringing issues into the school environment.

“We, the day scholars, are the ambassadors of the school. The picture that the public sees is us. It’s a challenge, but I have faith in God that He’ll get me through it,” she said.

Salote is focused on restoring respect and school culture among her peers.

“Our biggest role is not just setting the right example, but being a big sister, offering support to those who need it and building trust among students, which is key to overcoming challenges,” she said.

Although she describes herself as non‑athletic, Salote has actively participated in science teams, panel discussions, and public speaking competitions.

She credits prayer and strong time‑management skills for helping her balance academic and leadership responsibilities.

Her message to students and parents is one of encouragement: “Understand that you are loved. There are people who care, even if you don’t always see it. Don’t rebel; always do good.”

She also shared her favourite Bible verse, Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time you will reap the harvest if you don’t give up.”

Salote’s journey is not just about leadership, it’s about responsibility, faith, and becoming a role model for others, proving that perseverance and support can shape the next generation of school leaders.
