ODPP re-examining sedition file involving former PM, ex-police chief

The ODPP has now confirmed that police resubmitted the file on January 7, 2026, seeking further analysis and legal advice on the matter.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has confirmed that a file involving allegations of sedition against a former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and a former Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho remains under review.

In a statement, the ODPP said it first received the investigation file from police in February 2023. Following a review of the evidence at the time, the file was returned to police with recommendations for further investigation.

The ODPP has now confirmed that police resubmitted the file on January 7, 2026, seeking further analysis and legal advice on the matter.

“The file is currently under review in accordance with standard ODPP procedures,” the statement said.

The ODPP added that once the review process is completed, police will be advised accordingly.
