Arisha Meenal Sami’s career path was inspired by her two elder sisters, who work in taxation overseas.

She graduated on a high note from the University of Fiji’s Saweni Campus in Lautoka yesterday, earning multiple top awards.

A former National Toppers student, Ms Sami pursued a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Economics, from 2023 to 2025.

She scooped four gold medals: the discipline award, outstanding student in accounting, outstanding student in economics, the school award and the Vice-Chancellor’s award.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” she said.

Originally from Nasoso, Nadi, Ms Sami was raised in a close-knit family that values education, perseverance and service.

Her academic journey began at Sabeto Sangam School and continued at SSKMC Nadi.

While her first two years at university progressed smoothly, she faced challenges in her final months. In October, weeks before her final exams, her family had to dismantle their home and relocate.

During this period, her father, Meera Sami, a retired fisherman, fell ill, requiring the family to travel to India for medical treatment.

“My father ensured I made it to university for my classes, my mother made sure I was always cared for, and my aunt encouraged me to present myself confidently each day. My sisters were always there with words of encouragement whenever I needed them.”

Ms Sami has since started her career as an auditor at KPMG, gaining practical experience in accounting and auditing.

Looking ahead, she plans to pursue her Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand qualification.

“I am planning to start CA this year,” she said.

“My elder sister, Anisha Sami, is a tax manager at KPMG Australia, and my second sister, Shaya Sami, is an assistant manager in audit at the Sydney office. They both inspire me. I was never into science — I love numbers and working with them.”

She dedicated her awards to her family.
