Western schools remains closed, Central and Eastern reopen

Schools in the Central and Eastern divisions will reopen tomorrow, April 10, while those in the Western Division will remain closed due to ongoing weather-related disruptions.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro said the decision was based on latest situational reports and consultations with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO).
Schools in the Northern Division will continue operating as normal.

The Ministry of Education said several evacuation centres remain active in the Western Division, including three in Ba and Tavua, 11 schools in Lautoka, Nadi and Yasawa, six in Ra, and one in Nadroga/Navosa.
It also noted that many affected areas continue to face power and water disruptions, while some access routes remain unsafe.
The ministry said the safety of students remained the top priority, particularly for those who travel long distances to school.
Parents and guardians have been advised to keep children at home where schools remain closed and ensure they do not attempt to cross flooded areas.
Students are encouraged to continue home-based learning, including reading and revision.
Heads of schools have been directed to liaise with divisional education offices and provide updates on teachers and learning activities.
The Ministry of Education said it would continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as needed.
