Schools across the Western Division will remain closed due to continuous heavy rainfall that has caused widespread flooding, unsafe road access and rising river levels.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro, in collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) and divisional authorities, issued the advisory confirming the closure as a safety precaution.
Flooding has affected many low-lying and flood-prone communities in the Western Division, prompting the decision to keep schools shut.

However, parents and guardians have been advised that the final decision on whether to send children to school rests with them, particularly for those living in affected or flood-prone areas where roads, crossings or transport routes may remain unsafe.
Parents are reminded to ensure children do not attempt to cross flooded roads, creeks or rivers, to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas, to closely supervise children and to continue monitoring official weather updates and advisories.
Heads of Schools have been directed to remain in close communication with their Management Committees and District Education Offices and to assess school grounds and facilities before resuming normal operations.
The Ministry said the safety and welfare of students, teachers and families remain its highest priority and that it will continue to monitor the situation and issue further updates as necessary.
