$0.5m for National Education Summit and Pre-Summit

The pre-summit and National Education Summit incurred an expense of $532, 739.14, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has revealed.

Mr Radrodro was responding to a written question by Opposition Member of Parliament Hem Chand who asked for the full cost of the summit and its outcomes.

Mr Radrodro stated that the pre-summit was funded by the Global Partnership for Education and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) incurred a cost of $343, 959.23 and the actual summit was funded by the ministry with a total of $188, 779.91.

The summit convened for three days from September 20-22.

He said the outcomes of the summit were titled the 2023 Denarau Declaration which the ministry launched together with a three-year strategic plan on November 10.

“The document captures the vision and intention to create a robust and adaptable educational system that nurtures resilient and capable Fijians,” Mr Radrodro said.

“The framework will encompass all levels of education from ECE to tertiary eduation and emphasises inclusivity and equity.”
