The newly-refurbished tracks at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium is a testament to Government’s commitment to investment in sports infrastructure.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka made the comment as he reopened the newly refurbished tracks yesterday.

The four-month track restoration was completed in time for the secondary school inter-house competition that gets underway today.

Mr Rabuka acknowledged all the parties involved in making the refurbishment of the synthetic tracks a reality.

The HFC Bank Stadium has been a symbol of sporting excellence as it is a place where dreams are called and champions are made, he said.

We work tirelessly through the Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with Fiji Sports Council and Sphynx Solutions to bring you the best.

Mr Rabuka said the new tracks would promote a healthy lifestyle for all our citizens.

This track would provide athletes with a world-class facility to train and compete.

Significant milestone

Minister of Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru said the reopening of the tracks marked a significant milestone in the ministry’s commitment to promoting youth and sports development.

“The value of sports and recreation to the nation simply cannot be overemphasised in raising our health and fitness levels,” he said.

“It also provides a means of keeping our young people away from crime and drugs.”

Fiji Sports Council executive chairman Ratu Gilbert Vakalalabure acknowledged the Government for allocating a budget of $1.9 million for the restoration of the stadium tracks.

“These tracks will not only benefit our athletes but also elevate Fiji’s stature as a hub for regional and international sporting events,” Ratu Gilbert said.

“I’m particularly proud to high-light the environmentally sustainable aspects of this project by the contractor Sphynx Solution in incorporating recycled materials and eco-friendly design features.’’
