$120.8m Budgetary Funding Used: Kiran

The Transport Assistance Scheme has 74,840 recipients, the highest number of any social welfare programme.

More than 70 per cent of the $171 million allocated to the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection’s social welfare programmes has been spent so far this financial year.

In response to a written question from Opposition Member of Parliament Premila Kumar, the line minister, Sashi Kiran, revealed that more than $120.8 million in budgetary funding has been used.

Social Pension Scheme has used 79 per cent of its $78m budget; Family Assistance Scheme has used 59 per cent of a $44.2m budget; Transport Assistance Scheme has used nearly all of its $13.3m; Child Protection Allowance has used 68 per cent of a $17.4m; Allowance for Persons with Disability has used 43 per cent of a $17.6m; and Food Allowance for Rural Pregnant Mothers has used 61 per cent of a $400,000 budget.

The Transport Assistance Scheme has 74,840 recipients, the highest number of any social welfare programme. It is followed by the Social Pension Scheme (56,811), Family Assistance Scheme (23,967), Allowance for Persons with Disability (13,905), Child Protection Allowance (11,900), and Food Allowance for Rural Pregnant Mothers (737).
