13 Year Sentence for Raping 3-Year-Old Niece
The accused was alone at home with his niece when he took her to her room and raped her.

A 30-year-old man is now facing 13 years 10 months and two weeks imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping his three-year-old niece last July.
The man appeared before Judge Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull at the High Court in Suva yesterday to receive his sentence for his one count of rape.
The court heard the man who was the cousin brother of the victim’s father, was alone at home with his niece when he took her to her room and raped her.

It was heard that the family trusted the accused as he had been living with them for some time. The court heard that the victim’s mother went to town and left the victim with him; however, when she came back, she saw the accused exit through the window, while her daughter was lying on her bed. The accused person was found guilty after a proper trial.
A permanent Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) was issued against him not to be near the victim and her family.
