1600 Cattle Tested Positive For Bovine Tuberculosis

The Ministry of Agriculture tested 33,839 cattle in total for TB and more than 1000 came out positive.

One-thousand-six-hun­dred-and-eighty-one cattle tested positive for Bovine Tuberculosis last year under the Bru­cellosis and Tuberculosis Eradication Campaign.

Minister for Agricul­ture, Rural and Maritime Development,Waterways and Environment Mahen­dra Reddy said they tested 33,839 cattle in total for TB and only more than 1000 came out positive. He added that 22,090 cattle were tested for Brucellosis and 31 were positive.

Mr Reddy said they initially had 10 trained staff working under the cam­paign who undertook TB and Brucellosis testing of the cattle on a day-to-day basis.He said the ministry now had four veterinarians and was in the process of re­cruiting one more.
