The $180 cash assistance was a timely Father’s Day gift for grandfather Kinivuwai Kuruisalili who would be able to buy school stationary for his grandchildren.

Mr Kuruisalili is a subsistence farmer at Korovisilou in Serua

His two grandchildren are aged 13 and five.

He said such assistance goes a long way for his grandchildren who attends Ratu Latinara Primary School.

“With this $180 assistance, children will feel motivated to go to school because they will have new stationary to use.”

His wife Sera Vunibeqa who is a village nurse in Serua said parents rely heavily on selling at the market to earn money.

“Sometimes parents don’t earn enough from selling at the market and that impacts how much they can spend on stationary,” he said.

“Since the is assistance given such as the $180 payout, it will really help these families.”

The cash assistance is part of Government’s inflation mitigation payout that was announced in the 2022-2023 National Budget in July.
