Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will voluntarily appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and will reveal who was behind the 1987 coup.

Mr Rabuka revealed this in a press conference yesterday, stating that he plans to be the first to appear before the commission when it convenes soon.

The participation of other coup leaders were entirely up to them, Mr Rabuka said.

He referred to former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and 2000 coup front man George Speight.

“We can be summoned but I will voluntarily appear,” Mr Rabuka said.

“Yes, I plan to appear as the first to lay the foundation of the thought processes,” he said.

He said those that would choose not to show up would then leave with the guilt to their graves.

“If others do not want to appear, that will make it a pointless exercise,” he said.

“They will decide whether they will participate or not, it will not change the outcome of the commission.

Mr Rabuka has assured that he will reveal everything about who was behind the 1987 coup.
