Tui Ba, Ratu Filimone Nale, has urged all landowners to take a cue from the collaboration with the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), saying it will benefit landowners in the long run.

Speaking at the opening of the Varavu Residential Subdivision in Ba yesterday, he said that TLTB had invested about $1 million for making roads, electricity, water, and subdivision works.

The project includes 26 lots, providing secure homes for Fijians.

“We have the land, and we need to make use of it. It’s not good for it to sit unused,” Ratu Filimone said.

“I’m proud to say I was the first to offer land in the Vanua o Koronubu, from the Tokatoka (sub clan) Masekunalagi, where we are now, for residential development,” he added.

Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu said that this milestone development marks a significant step in empowering landowners through sustainable land use and providing modern residential opportunities for the people of Fiji.

“Due to these challenging times that we are in, the Coalition government is committed to providing affordable housing to the communities. If one has been provided with a home, he feels secure to take care of his family,” Mr Vasu said.

“It has been after 40 years now that TLTB has taken a huge step to assist Government and the Ministry of Housing, and also other ministries that look after sustainable housing to provide residential housing for Fijians.’’

“The Government has been trying to provide housing to those who have moved from rural to urban areas to live their lives.’’

“There is an affordable housing programme provided by government for all Fijians to own a home.

He added that those successful business houses in Fiji today started in Ba.

Mr Vasu acknowledged Tui Ba for giving his land to the iTLTB to provide secure homes for Fijians.

‘’The iTaukei Affairs have been trying a lot to help iTaukei make good use of their resources.’’

“TLTB’s Manager North West, Soloveni Masi, said it is first for iTLTB to provide a residential subdivision.

“This is the way now for iTLTB under the new strategic direction under the new leadership of the iTaukei Affairs Minister, Mr Vasu and also the Government.”

He added that iTLTB will soon be launching another similar project in Tailevu.

“We believe that landowners will maximise their benefits when they start developing their land.”
