2 Die In Western Division Road Accidents, Women And Babies Rushed To Hospital

Two lives were lost in separate fatal accidents in the Western Division yesterday.
Commuters, who were waiting at the Nadi bus stand, were shocked when an empty bus veered off the bus bay and slammed into the seating area of the bus stand.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said an elderly woman was pronounced dead upon arrival at Nadi Hospital.
“And in a separate incident in Ba involving a two-car smash up at around 4pm a motorcyclist lost his life.”
When this edition went to press last night, Police were still trying to identify the elderly victim and the motorcyclist.
In the Nadi bus stand accident an 18-year-old woman, who sustained a fracture to her leg, was transferred to Lautoka Hospital where she is now recovering.
Two other women and two babies were rushed to Nadi Hospital received treatment and sent home.
One of injured women, Militia Ravutu, 23, of Vunamoli in Nadi, was with her seven-month-old son. They were waiting for their bus with her cousin and her baby.
“We came from Sigatoka and got off the bus, but all of a sudden as we sat down to rest the bus veered towards us, luckily our injuries were not that severe,” Ms Ravutu said.
The driver of the bus, who was admitted at the Lautoka Hospital, will be interviewed by police upon his discharge.
Ms Naisoro said investigations were underway to determine the cause of the accidents.
