The road upgrade along Queen Elizabeth Drive in Suva will be completed in two years.

For many daily commuters, the Drive is a favoured route because of its scenic value despite the road conditions.

Work is underway to upgrade the existing road alignment which includes the wider carriageway, on road bicycle lane, two roundabouts, service lane and upgrade of Nasese Bridge, parking facility, landscaping for beautification and street lights.

According to the Fiji Roads Authority, they will be upgrading water pipeline and underground laying of power and communication lines.

There will also be an improved safety feature along the Queen Elizabeth Drive.

FRA said the design work for Nasese Bridge was in its final stage and construction was underway.

Utility works are scheduled to begin by January 2021 and are expected to be completed by December 2022.

A fence has been temporarily installed at the MySuva Picnic Park for safety and protection of the general public.

“The upgraded infrastructure will allow the public to be able to travel safely, smoothly and will enhance community pride,” said FRA.

“It will also reduce the travel time between Laucala Bay intersection and Ratu Sukuna Road.”
