More than 2000 marijuana plants were uncovered in two places in the remote Malua Range in the district of Nasikawa, in Navosa on Monday.

The raid was part of the police continued aggressive efforts to combat drug cultivation, that either involves marijuana or hard substances.

Officers from the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID) recently carried out two successful raids in Navosa, uncovering over 2000 marijuana plants.

The operation was launched after intelligence indicated the presence of illegal marijuana farms in the area, prompting a team to trek through challenging terrain to locate the plantations.

The officers spent a night in the highlands before executing the raid.

At one site, they uprooted more than 1800 plants, while at a second location, they uprooted over 900 plants, ranging in size from 10 cm to 2.5 metres.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu emphasised the significance of the operation, noting that the seizure is a key part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the drug supply chain.

He highlighted that recent operations have focused on dismantling networks involved in the cultivation and distribution of illegal drugs.

ACP Driu also praised the public’s role in providing crucial information, which led to both the recent discoveries of the farms and several arrests.

“Many suspects have already been charged and brought before the courts following earlier raids. Anyone who wishes to share information is encouraged to call any of the following numbers, whereby information shared will be kept confidential,” ACP Driu said.
